When You're Doing "All the Right Things" but Still Not Getting Where You Dream of Going

Sep 21, 2025

You go to church.
You pray.
You’ve read the books, journaled, tried counseling.
You’ve forgiven. You’ve kept showing up. You’ve spoken truth out loud even when your heart didn’t feel it.

But somehow… something still feels off.
Heavy. Disconnected. Stuck.

You may feel you're doing all the right things—but you’re not getting where you dream of going.

You want more than just functioning. You want to feel alive again. You want to walk with confidence in your purpose, deeply connected to God, and free from the weight you’ve silently carried.

If you’ve whispered, “What’s wrong with me?” or felt like peace and joy are for everyone else but just out of reach for you—You are not alone. And you are not broken.

You may just be carrying something you were never meant to carry into the next chapter of your story.

When the Past Still Has a Voice

Janice Leonetti knows what it feels like to keep moving forward with a fractured heart.

By the time she was 22, she had lost both of her parents. In a home where emotions weren’t fully expressed or explored, she learned to be strong, silent, and self-sufficient. It worked—for a while. But as life continued to unfold, so did the weight of unprocessed pain.

Later came divorce, depression, and a disorienting loss of identity. She had faith. She believed in God. She did the things she knew to do. But emotionally and spiritually, something remained disconnected.

It’s a common experience for those who carry unresolved trauma or deep grief. Psychology calls it emotional suppression—when pain isn’t processed, it’s buried. And neuroscience has confirmed what scripture already reveals: when the heart is wounded, everything else flows from that place (Proverbs 4:23).

Our nervous system, designed by God, will do everything it can to keep us safe. But safety isn’t the same as wholeness. When we’ve adapted to survive, it can be difficult to dream again, trust again, or move toward our God-given purpose.

God Isn’t Asking You to Try Harder—He’s Inviting You to Go Deeper

For Janice, healing didn’t come through more striving. It came through surrender. Through slowing down enough to invite God into the moments and memories she hadn’t fully processed.

As she allowed the Holy Spirit to guide her into the deeper places of her story, transformation began to unfold. The emotional numbness lifted. Her ability to hear from God deepened. The wounds that once held her back became places where God’s presence now lives.

And with time, Janice recognized that her story wasn’t just about surviving. It was preparation. God was equipping her to walk alongside others on their own journey toward freedom.

What Is Inner Healing?

Inner healing is not therapy or advice—it’s a prayer-led process that combines biblical truth, emotional insight, and neuroscience-backed understanding to uncover and heal what’s been holding you back.

It helps you:

  • Identify hidden beliefs that shape how you see yourself, God, and others.
  • Gently revisit buried pain and invite God's truth into those moments.
  • Let go of emotional and spiritual weights you were never meant to carry

Romans 12:2 tells us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That renewal doesn’t come from positive thinking alone. It happens when the lies we’ve lived under are replaced by truth—not just in our heads, but deep in our hearts and bodies.

A Step You Can Take Today

If you feel like something is stirring, but you’re not quite ready to schedule a session, here’s a simple first step to begin:

Create space for quiet. Place your hand over your heart. Ask:

1. “Lord, is there a memory or moment You want to bring healing to today?”

Be still. Let whatever comes rise to the surface.

2. “What did I begin to believe about myself—or about You—in that moment?”

Be honest. You may discover a belief you didn’t realize you carried.

3. “Jesus, what truth do You want me to know instead?”

Listen. Don’t rush. What He speaks may surprise you.

This small practice can begin to open the places in you that have been locked down—not for punishment, but for protection. As they gently open, healing can begin.

Janice’s Story: From Survival to Purpose

Janice’s transformation was never just for herself.
After experiencing deep healing through inner healing prayer, she trained to walk others through their own breakthroughs. She completed a two-year apprenticeship in inner healing, became a certified Peer Support Specialist, and now serves in local ministry, women's prison outreach, and as a member of the It’s Your Story to Tell board of directors.

Her work is grounded in compassion, discernment, and the presence of God.
Her heart is to create a safe space where women can feel, release, and reconnect with who they truly are.

She understands that what keeps us stuck isn’t always visible—and that freedom isn’t found in force, but in gentle truth and grace.

Hear Her Journey

You’ll hear how grief gave way to grace, and how Janice turned her personal healing into a calling to help others find their way through.
