How Shame Keeps You Stuck and the Truth That Sets You Free
Mar 30, 2026
There’s a kind of quiet struggle many women carry that no one else sees. On the outside, life looks put together. You’re showing up. You’re doing what needs to be done. You’re loving people, working hard, trying to grow. But underneath it all, there’s something you don’t talk about. A memory. A mistake. A season. A version of yourself you wish you could erase.
And somewhere deep inside, a quiet voice whispers: If anyone really knew… everything would change.
So you stay silent.
You keep moving.
You try to become better without ever fully being honest about what’s still unresolved.
And without realizing it, shame begins to shape your life.
The Hidden Cost of Shame
Shame doesn’t always show up loudly.
It doesn’t always say, “You’re a bad person.”
- You’ve gone too far.
- You should have known better.
- You can’t undo that.
- This is just who you are now.
And the longer you listen, the more it convinces you that hiding is safer than being seen.
So you adapt.
You become the strong one.
The helper.
The high achiever.
The one who keeps everything together.
But inside, there’s a disconnect. Because shame doesn’t just keep you from others it keeps you from yourself.
It keeps you from fully experiencing joy because part of you is still guarded.
It keeps you from deep connection because you’re afraid of being fully known.
It keeps you from stepping into your purpose because you quietly believe you’re disqualified.
And most of all, it keeps you stuck.
Why Shame Keeps You Stuck
Shame thrives in secrecy. As long as something stays hidden, it stays powerful. It continues to shape your thoughts, your reactions, your relationships, and your identity without ever being challenged. It becomes the lens through which you see yourself.
You may try to move forward.
You may set goals, read books, pray, journal, and do all the “right” things.
But if shame is still sitting underneath it all, it will quietly pull you back. Because you can’t heal what you’re not willing to reveal.
Not to everyone.
Not all at once.
But to someone safe.
And ultimately, to God.
You Are Not Alone in This
If this feels familiar, you’re not the only one walking through it.
In Part 1 of the podcast episode with Rachel, she shares what it actually feels like to live in that hidden place loving God while quietly feeling disqualified, carrying secrets, and believing that if anyone knew the truth, everything would fall apart.
The Life You Dream About Requires Honesty
There’s a reason you feel that pull for more.
More peace.
More freedom.
More connection.
More purpose.
That desire isn’t random. It’s a glimpse of the life you were created to live.
But here’s what’s often missed:
You don’t step into that life by trying harder.
You step into it by becoming honest.
Honest about what hurt you.
Honest about what you’ve done.
Honest about what you’re still carrying.
Because honesty breaks the power of shame.
It interrupts the lies.
It brings what’s been hidden into the light.
And it creates space for healing to begin.
What Happens When You Tell the Truth
For many, the hardest part isn’t the healing it’s the moment before it begins.
The moment where you decide: I can’t keep living like this.
That moment feels risky.
Exposing.
Uncertain.
Because shame tells you honesty will cost you everything. But the truth is honesty is what gives you everything back. When you speak what you’ve been carrying, something shifts.
The weight begins to lift.
The fear begins to loosen.
The lies begin to lose their grip.
And often, what you feared most rejection is replaced with something you didn’t expect:
Love.
Understanding.
Grace.
What Healing Looks Like on the Other Side
Healing doesn’t mean your past disappears. It means it no longer defines you.
In Part 2 of Rachel’s story, you’ll hear what happened after she chose honesty how she learned to recognize the voice of shame versus the voice of truth, how God restored what felt broken, and how redemption became real in her life, relationships, and purpose.

Honesty Is the Turning Point
Healing doesn’t start when everything is fixed. It starts the moment you stop pretending.
The moment you let yourself be seen.
The moment you say, “This is where I really am.”
That’s where things begin to change. Because when truth enters the room, shame can’t stay the same.
And from that place, you can begin to rebuild,
not from who you’re trying to appear to be,
but from who you truly are.
You Are Not Disqualified
If you’ve been carrying something in silence, hear this:
Your story is not over.
Your past does not define your future.
And you are not disqualified from the life you long for.
The very thing you’ve been hiding may be the place where your healing begins. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s honest.
A Gentle Next Step
You don’t have to tell everything to everyone. But you do need to stop carrying it alone.
Start with one safe person.
A trusted friend.
A mentor.
A counselor.
Or begin with God, right where you are.
Let yourself be fully honest, without filtering. Because the life you’re dreaming of isn’t on the other side of perfection. It’s on the other side of truth.
