138: Healing the Wounds of Childhood | Dr. Uejin Kim on Parentification, Emotional Trauma & Faith-Based Healing (Part 1)

Season #4

Have you ever felt like the “strong one” in your family—the one who had to grow up too fast, carry the emotional weight of others, or put your needs aside to keep the peace?

In this powerful episode of It’s Your Story to Tell, host Megan Babcock sits down with psychiatrist and coach Dr. Uejin Kim to explore parentification, emotional trauma, and the healing journey through a faith-based lens.

Dr. Kim shares her personal story of growing up emotionally responsible for others and the impact that had on her identity, relationships, and mental health. They also discuss:

👉 What parentification looks like and how it affects adults
👉 Why highly responsible people often struggle with rest and boundaries
👉 How childhood trauma influences anxiety, perfectionism, and burnout
👉 Faith and neuroscience-based approaches to healing the inner child
👉 Releasing what was never ours to carry

If you’ve ever asked, “Why do I feel responsible for everything?” or “Why am I so burned out from being strong?” — this episode will give you language, validation, and tools to begin healing.

🔔 Stay tuned for Part 2, where we dive into re-parenting, emotional regulation, and receiving God’s grace.

For years, I carried a story I was afraid to tell—chapters marked by silent battles, shame, trauma, and the weight of expectations that shaped how I saw myself. I learned to survive by striving, pleasing, and performing… until survival no longer worked. In the quiet places of breaking, God began to reveal a different path—not one of hiding, but of healing; not one of striving, but of surrender.

In 2007, I first heard the whisper of calling, but it wasn’t until I walked through my own valleys— heartbreak, spiritual awakening, and the unraveling of old identities that I finally understood: my life was being prepared for a purpose far greater than I imagined. God was weaving together my 23 years in healthcare, my deep study of trauma and neuroscience, and the countless ways He had healed the hidden parts of my story.

When I finally stepped into my calling in 2023, launching It’s Your Story to Tell something transformed. The very places I once believed disqualified me became the foundation of my ministry. Today, I help people rise from the weight of their past, regulate their nervous systems, and align with the truth of who God created them to be. At the intersection of faith and neuroscience, I guide others into emotional wholeness, resilience, and Spirit-led confidence.

My mission is simple: to transform lives by helping people rise with purpose and leave a legacy of healing, courage, and redemption. I believe every story, no matter how broken, can become a beacon of hope when surrendered to God. And I’m living proof that when we step into the calling we once feared, we become unstoppable in the impact we were born to make.
